  • Karnataka bans RSS meets on govt land
  • Decision taken in Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet meeting
  • Move follows Priyank Kharge’s letter to CM

In a major move Chief Minister Siddaramaiah-led Cabinet has decided to prohibit RSS and other private organisations from conducting any activities on government properties without prior permission.

The Karnataka Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has taken a significant decision restricting Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and other private organisations from organising activities on government-owned properties and public spaces without prior permission.

The decision comes in the backdrop of Minister Priyank Kharge’s letter to the Chief Minister, urging a clear prohibition on private groups, including the RSS, from using government land for meetings or training events. His letter had triggered heated exchanges between BJP and Congress leaders, intensifying the political debate over the use of public spaces for ideological gatherings.

In the latest Cabinet meeting held at Vidhana Soudha, the issue was formally raised by the Chief Minister himself. The Cabinet deliberated on the matter and agreed to impose a restriction similar to the model followed in Tamil Nadu, where prior approval from the government is mandatory for such gatherings.

Under this new directive, RSS or any private body cannot hold meetings, shakhas, or any activity in government schools, playgrounds, or other public premises without official clearance.
