Lokayukta police closure report approved; Probe to continue against other accused
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has received significant legal relief in the MUDA case, with the Special Court for People’s Representatives accepting the B-report filed by Lokayukta police.
The court’s order brings relief not only to Siddaramaiah but also to Parvathi, Mallikarjuna Swamy, and Devaraj, all of whom were named in the case. The Lokayukta police had submitted the B-report stating that no prosecutable evidence was found against these four individuals, and the court has now formally accepted it.
With this decision, the allegations levelled against Siddaramaiah and the three others in the MUDA matter stand closed at this stage.
However, the court has made it clear that the case is not fully concluded. While accepting the B-report for these four accused, the court has granted permission to continue investigation against the remaining accused in the case.
In another important development, the court dismissed a contempt of court petition filed against the investigating officer, stating that there was no merit in the plea.
The order also clarified that investigations against government officials can be continued by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), indicating that scrutiny into the role of officials linked to the case will proceed independently.
The acceptance of the B-report by the special court is being seen as a major relief for the Chief Minister, who had come under political and legal pressure following his name being linked to the MUDA issue.
