Ending years of hardship, the Karnataka government allows KSRTC, BMTC and other transport staff to seek transfers across corporations, bringing families closer and ensuring a transparent process.
In a major New Year announcement, the Karnataka government led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has delivered long-awaited relief to thousands of state road transport employees by officially rolling out inter-corporation transfers across transport undertakings.
From January 1, employees of KSRTC and other state transport corporations can apply to move between corporations, a demand that had remained unresolved for several years. The decision has come as a major emotional and practical relief for staff who have been working hundreds of kilometres away from their home districts, separated from their families.
Until now, transfer rules restricted employees to movement only within their parent corporation. This meant KSRTC staff had to remain within KSRTC limits, while technical hurdles made transfers between KSRTC, BMTC, KKRTC and NWKRTC nearly impossible. As a result, thousands of employees were forced to continue postings far from home, often under personal and family stress.
The new policy marks a significant shift. KSRTC Managing Director Akram Pasha has issued an official notification to all transport corporation heads, formally launching the inter-corporation transfer process. Applications will be accepted for one full month, from January 1 to January 31.
Eligible employees can apply either under the general transfer category or through mutual transfer, where two employees from different corporations agree to swap positions. Applications can be submitted online or through the prescribed format issued by the department.

Officials have clarified that the entire process will be conducted in a transparent manner, with seniority and humanitarian grounds forming the basis for priority. The move enables transfers across KSRTC, BMTC, KKRTC and NWKRTC, opening up long-denied opportunities for employees to return to their native districts.
The rollout of this policy on the very first day of the year has brought visible cheer among transport workers and their families, many of whom see this as a hard-earned victory after years of collective demands and struggle.
