NewsFirst in Belagavi is set to make history today with the launch of “Krishi Devobhava” – Karnataka’s first-ever sugarcane farmers’ conclave. Held at KLE’s Jirge Hall, the one-day program is designed to address the pressing challenges that continue to haunt cane growers despite Belagavi being the state’s sugarcane capital.

With over 30 sugar factories, Belagavi leads Karnataka’s sugarcane production, yet farmers here remain plagued by repeated crises — from volatile prices to the devastating gonne hulu (shoot borer pest) that threatens yields.

The conclave, inaugurated by Minister Satish Jarkiholi and Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, will feature renowned agricultural scientists and subject experts delivering practical solutions on soil health, pest management, and sustainable farming. Special sessions will also highlight how technology can drive yield growth and how government schemes can directly support cane farmers.
