Renowned Kannada writer S.L. Bhyrappa, famed for his powerful storytelling and philosophical insights, has passed away at the age of 94. Bhyrappa, who was battling age-related health issues, died in a private hospital in Bengaluru. A native of Santeshivara village in Hassan district, he had been living a quiet, retired life in Mysuru.

Known for his prolific contributions to Kannada literature, Bhyrappa’s major works include Parva, Avarana, Griha Bhanga, Vamshavriksha, and Tantu. His novels explored a wide array of themes, from social issues to philosophical questions, sparking numerous public debates. His literary excellence earned him several prestigious awards, including the Saraswati Samman in 2010 and the Padma Shri in 2016, with the Padma Bhushan being awarded posthumously in 2023.

Passionate supporter of Prime Minister Modi

A passionate supporter of Prime Minister Modi, Bhyrappa also contributed significantly to his hometown, working towards rejuvenating the lakes in Santeshivara. Despite many calls for him to receive the Jnanpith Award, Bhyrappa had already been honored with the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2015, cementing his legacy in Indian literature.

Bhyrappa’s writings, which have been translated into multiple languages, will continue to inspire readers and scholars for generations to come.
