Karnataka’s coffee sector has recorded a remarkable export performance in FY 2024-25, with overseas shipments soaring by over 60% to surpass $1.1 billion. This marks a significant jump from the $713.7 million recorded in the previous fiscal year, reinforcing the state's position as the leading contributor to India’s coffee exports.

The sharp rise in export earnings has been driven largely by multi-year-high global coffee prices, triggered by production setbacks in major exporting countries such as Brazil and Vietnam. With domestic consumption of coffee remaining relatively low, Karnataka’s growers have benefited immensely from this surge in international demand.
Coffee, primarily cultivated in the Western Ghats, has proven to be a lifeline for thousands of planters across the region. The favourable export climate has not only strengthened the economic standing of local growers but also contributed significantly to the state's broader export portfolio.
While Karnataka’s total merchandise exports grew by 14.46% to nearly $30.5 billion, coffee emerged as one of the top-performing segments, outperforming many traditional export categories. The spike in demand, combined with better market access and improved exporter capabilities, has helped the sector expand its footprint in newer global markets.
The impressive growth in coffee exports highlights Karnataka’s increasing importance in the global coffee trade and underscores the need for sustained support in infrastructure, market linkages, and export facilitation to maintain momentum in the coming years.
