Bengaluru’s Vidhana Soudha is set to become a hub of literature, culture, and cuisine as the Karnataka Legislative Assembly prepares to host its inaugural book and cultural festival from February 27 to March 3.

Announcing the event, Speaker UT Khader revealed that the five-day festival will feature a literature fest, a large-scale book fair, and evening cultural performances. The event aims to be well-organized, with an award planned for an eminent litterateur during the program.

The book fair will house approximately 150 stalls, with 80% dedicated to Kannada literature and the remaining featuring works in English and other languages. Aspiring authors will have the opportunity to launch their books, while designated spots will host interactive sessions with writers.

To promote reading in educational institutions, legislators will be permitted to allocate ₹2–3 lakh from their MLA Local Area Development (MLALAD) funds for purchasing books for government schools, colleges, and public libraries in their constituencies.

A special committee, comprising officials from multiple departments, has been formed to oversee the event’s execution. In an effort to engage the public, the Assembly Secretariat has invited suggestions for the festival’s name and logo, which can be submitted via email or WhatsApp.

The initiative is expected to foster a deeper appreciation for literature and culture while promoting Kannada literary heritage.
