Kerala Police have filed a rape case against actor Siddique

The investigation is being handled by a special team
Kerala Police have filed a rape case against Siddique, a prominent Malayalam actor and former General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), following allegations made by a young actress. The complaint, which surfaced earlier this week, has sent shockwaves through the Malayalam film industry.
The complainant, once an aspiring actress in the Malayalam cinema, came forward with her allegations in the wake of the Hema Committee report, which highlighted widespread sexual abuse and gender discrimination within the industry. The report has sparked a wave of revelations, with several actors now speaking out against alleged abuses by their colleagues.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, with the alleged incident reportedly occurring in 2016 at a hotel in Thiruvananthapuram. The investigation is being handled by a special team tasked with examining all complaints arising from the Hema Committee’s findings.
In response to the allegations, Siddique has claimed that he is the target of a criminal conspiracy aimed at tarnishing the reputation of the Malayalam film industry. He has urged the state police chief to investigate and expose those behind what he describes as false and scandalous accusations.
In a related development, the police also registered a case against director Ranjith after a Bengali actress accused him of inappropriate behavior during pre-production discussions for a 2009 film. The investigations into both cases are ongoing.
