No doubt the introduction of mobile phones in education has gone a long way in which subjects are taught. However, on the other end of the continuum, addiction to these electronic gadgets has become a bane for parents.
Several kids are glued to these gadgets, only helping them develop myopia.
Dr Sumitra, ophthalmologist, Narayana Nethralaya says, “These days, kids don’t go out, don’t play in the park. They are addicted to mobile gadgets and TV sets. So we are seeing more cases of myopia among children.”
Mobile gadgets also contribute a lot towards sleep disturbances.
The doctor adds, “In order to silence the kids, parents hand over mobile gadgets to them. Once they start looking at it, the gadgets suck them in. Also, due to the exposure to these gadgets, sleep disturbances occur.”
With kids spending hours together on their mobile phones, their eyes can’t sustain the brightness of the gadgets. It is reported that about 75% of kids have eye-related problems, all owing to the usage of mobile phones.
Now, with the increased usage of mobile phones, it is nothing less of a challenge for medical practitioners to wean these kids away from mobile phones.
