The high-stakes T20 World Cup 2024 final saw Team India face South Africa at the Bridgetown ground in Barbados. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Indian captain Rohit Sharma took to the crease with high expectations. However, Sharma's aggressive start was short-lived. After hitting two consecutive fours off Keshav Maharaj, he attempted another boundary but was caught out. Sharma scored just 9 runs in 3 balls, leaving fans disappointed and expressing their frustration over his missed opportunity in the ICC mega tournament.
Adding to India's woes, Rishabh Pant, who was expected to stabilize the innings after Sharma's dismissal, played an irresponsible shot.
Amidst the mounting pressure, Axar Patel stepped up for India. Coming in after Pant's dismissal, Patel delivered an explosive performance, hitting four massive sixes and one four. His 47 runs off 31 balls provided much-needed support to the team. Patel's impressive strike rate of over 150 brought some relief to the Indian side, though he was eventually run out by Quinton de Kock.
Kohli's Masterclass
The match's highlight was undoubtedly Virat Kohli's stellar innings. As an opener, Kohli remained steadfast at the crease, exhibiting a mix of caution and aggression. He scored 76 runs off 59 balls, including two towering sixes and six fours. Kohli's masterful performance, characterized by excellent strike rotation and composure under pressure, ensured India posted a competitive total.
With contributions from Axar Patel and Virat Kohli, Team India managed to overcome early setbacks and post a formidable score in the final. Kohli's brilliance and Patel's explosive batting were pivotal in steering India towards a commendable position in the high-voltage T20 World Cup 2024 final.
South Africa Batting/India Bowling
Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs played well for South Africa as they began to bat. Heinrich Klaasen played magnificent innings for South Africa easing pressure on the team by scoring 52 runs of 27 balls. He hit five big sixes. With his batting, he brought the total score of its team to the proportionate number of balls, that otherwise had a good difference between runs and balls. Axar Patel gave 24 runs in the 15th over to South Africa, that turned the match on the South African side. In the subsequent over, Hardik Pandya took the crucial wicket of Heinrich Klaasen that gave a fresh lease of hope for team India. Bumrah and Arshdeep took two crucial wickets each, while Hardik Pandya picked up three crucial wickets including the big wicket of Klaasen. India wins by 7 runs and become ICC T20 world champions.
