Executive Chairperson of Biocon Limited,  Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw had shared a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on 19th September about a recent innovation by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) which allows the citizens to have updates about the status of their street’s garbage clearance and cleaning process by scanning a QR code attached to the street signboards.  It also provides information about the area’s engineering, electrical, forest and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) engineer’s contact details. 

The post had received 206,300 k views and 2020 likes. She lauded the initiative of BBMP in her post. Some users had expressed their reservation of the number of Pourakarmika workers being released publicly.

Jayaram Rajpura, BBMP zonal commissioner (south) said “We will expand this (project) to other areas in the coming days. The cost to cover the south zone is about Rs 15 lakh and for the entire city, it will come to around Rs 1.5 crore. The project has been approved to cover the whole of Bengaluru,” in an interaction with the Times of India

“In the meantime, people have been sharing their views on the project. We will add more features and information, depending on the feedback. Through this QR code-based system, people can directly contact officials to get their problems solved,” he added.
