The competition for the title of ‘Kempegowda’ has intensified in the last month. Various factions staking claim over the title have reached the court. There is a tussle among films starring Sandalwood actors Daali Dhananjay and Upendra for the title. Directions provided by the court have brought this conflict to an end.
If things had gone as planned, fans would have received an announcement on the occasion of Kempegowda Jayanti. The anticipation to see an on-screen adaptation of Kempegowda’s story has persisted among the Sandalwood audience for more than a decade. The legal battle unfortunately denied the fans of an update.

Daali Dhananjay will be collaborating with Producer-cum-Music Director Dr Kiran Thotambyle for his project. Upendra on the other hand will be collaborating with Director T.S Nagabharana. He got a stay order from the court by virtue of registering the title earlier than the other faction. Kiran has however succeeded in registering the title “Dharmabeeru Nadaprabhu Kempegowda.” This marks a setback for Nagabharana. “While registering a copyright is also sought for. Many names such as Modi, Gandhi and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda are outside the purview of copyrights. Nagabharana approached the court with a false declaration. This was a waste of the court’s time. My money was wasted in this process. I will file a police complaint, “ Kiran said.
