Dhariwal's academic achievements are equally impressive. He scored 295 out of 300 in the physics-chemistry-mathematics group during his Class XII examinations and excelled in entrance exams, scoring 190 in the MT-CET and 330 out of 360 in the JEE-Mains. In 2013, he was awarded the prestigious Abasaheb Naravane memorial prize by the MSBSHSE.

Dhariwal pursued a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (Mathematics) at MIT, graduating in 2017 with a perfect GPA of 5.0/5.0. He began his journey with OpenAI as a research intern in May 2016 and has since become a research scientist. His notable contributions include GPT-3, DALL-E 2, Jukebox, and the reversible generative model Glow.

"GPT-4o would not have happened without the vision, talent, conviction, and determination of Prafulla Dhariwal over a long period of time," Altman stated.

The unveiling of GPT-4o at OpenAI's Spring Update event showcased its advanced capabilities in reasoning across voice, text, and vision, marking OpenAI's first foray into natively multimodal models, a feat achieved under Dhariwal's leadership.
