The National Anti Doping Agency (NADA) had released data pertaining to the testing carried out on Indian cricketers until May 2023 starting from January 2023. 58 samples had been collected from 55 cricket including women cricketers. All rounder Ravindra Jadeja had submitted 3 samples in this period of time.
NADA had come under scrutiny with accusations along the lines of a lack of robustness with regard to testing. It had collected 54 samples in the year 2021. In the year 2022, NADA had collected 61 samples. In comparison to last year the rate of testing has improved by more than 2 times.
It is however interesting to notice that the captain of the Indian Cricket team, Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli have not undergone any testing in this period. However in the case of Rohit Sharma, he had undergone the most number of tests in the year 2021 and 2022. But Viat Kohli had not undergone a single test in both these years as well. The reasons for this disparity remain unclear as of the moment. The captain and vice captain of the Indian women’s cricket team, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have undergone testing as well.
