They urge authorities to give them protection

Hundreds of doctors descended on Freedom Park to express their anguish and indignation over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor in Kolkata. The soldiers with stethoscopes urged the authorities to give them protection and pass relevant bills to safeguard their lives.

Dr Vanitha, a junior resident said, “Why are only doctors being targeted? People can post on Ambani, Bangladesh and even Gaza attacks. Why are celebrities not talking? They are highly powerful. What kind of I-day did we celebrate?”
While she lamented that doctors are being targeted, her colleague spoke with a lot of pain in her voice.
Dr Vyshnavi, who echoed her sentiments, said, “What hurts us is that only doctors are protesting. We are being left out. We are all alone. Our morale is low. I want to urge PM Modi and Madam President to do something about this. We need reforms. Doctors are already leaving this country as they want a better life outside.”
Doctors around the country are holding protests, suspending OPDs, as a mark of protest against the heinous act. They demand an Act to be passed in order to safeguard them and let them treat their patients.
