In line with Basvanna’s philosophy of “Arive Guru” (knowledge is the guide), the Karnataka government seems keen to elevate libraries to the status of “Arivu Kendras” (knowledge centres), as per their statements pertaining to the matter. To achieve this target they are attempting to make digital learning material, interview guides and books related to the constitution, general awareness, science and motivation available to the public. A portion of the budget has been allocated specifically for this.
The Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL) has used its corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds to ensure that 261 gram panchayat libraries have resources pertaining to preparation material for competitive exams for government jobs such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS), Police Constable (PC), Police Sub Inspector (PSI), First Division Assistant (FDA), Second Division Assistant (SDA), Panchayat Development Office (PDO), Group C, Staff Selection Committee (SSC), Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and Railway Recruitment Board (RRB). 41 books have been arranged for this purpose. A total of Rs 26 lakh has been donated to the Kalaburagi Jilla Panchayat. Minister for IT/BT and Rural Development & Panchayat Raj, Priyank Kharge posted about the development on Twitter.
