A reality check highlighting the perils of students’ overcrowding in vans and autos (in Bengaluru) was telecast on our sister channel NewsFirst Kannada. Taking note of it, the Bengaluru police have swung into action and booked 994 errant vehicles.
Out of these vehicles, 319 are buses, 122 are autos, 133 are Omni vans and 332 are other types of van and the remaining are miscellaneous vehicles.

A few visuals of overcrowded vehicles, and a child falling onto the road after getting down an overcrowded vehicle, can leave anyone shell-shocked!
At the same time, Karnataka Child Rights Commission has also written a letter to the education and transport departments to arrest the situation.
Speaking to NewsFirst Prime after watching the programme, Dr KT Tippeswamy, Member, Karnataka Child Rights Commission said, “A programme on overcrowding of children, telecast by NewsFirst Kannada. This in-depth coverage is praiseworthy. We urge the authorities concerned to take note and safeguard the lives of our kids.”
