Amid rising protests over the appointment of actress Tamannaah Bhatia as the brand ambassador for Mysore Sandal Soap, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL) Managing Director Prashanth has come forward to defend the company's decision. Critics argue that a non-Kannadiga representing the iconic local brand undermines regional pride. However, Prashanth insists that the decision is part of a broader strategy to take Mysore Sandal Soap to the global stage.

"In the past year, we’ve witnessed significant growth for Mysore Sandal Soap at the global level," said Prashanth. "We deeply respect the essence of Kannada soil, water, and sentiment. However, when analyzing market strategy, it becomes necessary to establish a presence internationally."

According to Prashanth, the company initially approached leading actresses such as Pooja Hegde, Sreeleela, and Rashmika Mandanna, all of whom are known to have strong Karnataka connections. Unfortunately, all were engaged with prior commitments. "We turned to Tamannaah because of her strong pan-India fan base. This decision was driven purely by strategic goals," he explained.

He further emphasized that over 90% of jobs at KSDL have been offered to Kannadigas, reiterating the company’s commitment to the local workforce. "Kannadigas have always helped us grow. When it comes to the soil and spirit of Karnataka, we never compromise," he affirmed.

While protests continue near KSDL premises, officials hope the public will understand the brand’s long-term vision and the reasons behind this strategic move.
