Karnataka’s mango farmers are optimistic as favorable weather conditions promise a bumper harvest in 2025.

The Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation (KSMDMC) anticipates a yield of 12-13 lakh metric tonnes, a significant recovery from last year’s dismal produce, when the yield plummeted to 30% of the average due to extreme heat and pest attacks.

Mangoes require cool weather for fruit formation, and conditions have been conducive this year. The first harvest is expected to hit markets by mid-April, starting with mangoes from Ramanagara district, followed by Kolar, Chickballapur, and North Karnataka.

Despite the promising outlook, challenges persist. Farmers are battling hoppers and inflorescence bud diseases, with technical teams deployed to assist growers.

Farmers believe rain at this stage would be unfavorable and expect heat in the coming weeks to ensure a good harvest.

Popular varieties such as Badami and Senthura are expected to arrive first, with Mallika, Bainganapalli, and Rasapuri following. Last year, poor supply drove prices above ₹200 per kg; this year’s anticipated bounty may bring relief to consumers.
