The new vehicles, officially flagged off on Wednesday, will be tasked with patrolling roads, checking for compliance with safety regulations, and penalizing violators. These mobile units are expected to significantly boost the department's ability to monitor the rising volume of traffic across the state.
Since 2023, the department has recruited 123 motor vehicle inspectors who will now work in tandem with the new enforcement vehicles. Their duties will include thorough on-road inspections of vehicle conditions, tail lamp functionality, the presence of retro-reflective tapes, and rear marking plates. Non-compliance will result in immediate penalties.
As part of broader safety initiatives, the transport department also continues to conduct road safety awareness programs, aiming to educate the public about responsible driving practices and reduce accident rates.
Data from the department reveals that in the financial year 2024–25 alone, over 4 lakh cases have been registered for various traffic violations. These enforcement actions have resulted in the collection of ₹197.50 crore in fines, reflecting a robust approach to tackling traffic-related offences and reinforcing road discipline across Karnataka.
