Bengaluru’s iconic Lalbagh Botanical Garden is gearing up to host the annual Independence Day flower show from August 7 to August 18, 2025. This year, the event will pay tribute to the valor and legacy of Kittur Rani Chennamma and Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, central figures in Karnataka's resistance against British colonial rule.

The centerpiece of the event will be a grand floral replica of the Kittur Fort, crafted using roses and chrysanthemums. Visitors can also expect to see intricately designed floral models of Queen Chennamma on horseback and a standing depiction of Rayanna. A special floral recreation of Chennamma’s final resting place, the Samadhi Sthala in Kittur, will also be featured prominently.

Vertical Gardens and Cultural Showcases

Adding cultural depth to the exhibit, a portion of the fort will be presented as a vertical garden accompanied by life-size models of Lavani dancers, celebrating the traditional art form of North Karnataka. Another dramatic display will depict Rayanna on horseback, alongside a scene illustrating his martyrdom at the hands of British forces.

Storytelling Through Visual Media

To enrich the visitor experience, 60 large boards will be installed around the Glass House, each measuring 4 feet by 8 feet, chronicling the history of the Kittur kingdom—from its foundation to its decline. Additionally, eight outdoor screens will showcase rare photographs, film footage, and documentaries about Chennamma and Rayanna.

A Diverse Floral Palette

Over 100 flower varieties will be used in the displays, including popular choices like roses and chrysanthemums, as well as exotic blooms such as dahlias from Ooty, orchids, bromeliads, and canna lilies.

Following last year’s show which drew 9.07 lakh visitors and generated ₹3.44 crore in revenue, organizers anticipate a footfall of 10 to 11 lakh attendees this year.
