The Karnataka Rail Infrastructure Development Company (K-RIDE) has commenced land acquisition for Corridor-2 of the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project, also known as the Mallige Line. The 35% complete corridor stretches from Baiyappanahalli to Chikkabanavara, with efforts now focused on securing an additional 24,774 square meters of land to advance the project.

The acquisition process involves private and government-owned land across several key areas, including Lottegollahalli (2,139.32 sq. m), Hebbal (5,451 sq. m), Nagawara (771 sq. m), Lingarajapuram (3,786.32 sq. m), Makali (1,393.51 sq. m), and Peenya Plantation (2,920.49 sq. m), among others.
Buildings Set for Demolition
In a significant step forward, K-RIDE has begun clearing 289 buildings along the Baiyappanahalli-Chikkabanavara stretch of Corridor-2. These structures form part of the 650 buildings slated for demolition across the broader 148-km suburban rail network. The demolitions encompass a mix of residential, commercial, and smaller structures.
The Mallige Line will feature 12 strategically located stations at intervals of 1.5 to 2.5 km. Proposed stations include Benniganahalli, Kasturi Nagar, Sevanagar, Banaswadi, Nagawara, Kanaka Nagar, Hebbal, Mathikere, Yeshwanthpur, Shettyhalli, Myadarahalli, and Chikkabanavara. Of these, two will be elevated, and two will serve as interchange hubs, enhancing connectivity across Bengaluru.
The suburban rail project aims to alleviate the city’s traffic woes, offering an efficient and sustainable transit option for commuters.
