'Live in the world, not for fame': Kohli, Anushka get wise spiritual advice

A day after announcing his retirement from Test cricket, Virat Kohli, accompanied by wife Anushka Sharma, visited Shri Hit Radha Keli Kunj Ashram in Vrindavan to seek spiritual counsel from renowned spiritual leader Shri Hit Premanand Govind Sharan Ji Maharaj. A video of the couple's interaction with the pontiff has since gone viral on social media.

During the meeting, the spiritual teacher greeted Kohli with a gentle query: “Prasanna ho?” (“Are you happy?”). Kohli responded with a modest, “Ji, abhi thik hain” (“Yes, I’m okay”), prompting Maharaj Ji to bless him with words of steadiness and well-being.

In a moment of deeper reflection, Maharaj Ji addressed the essence of spiritual living, saying: “This prosperity is not merely grace, it is the result of virtue. True movement towards the divine happens when the inner contemplation begins to shift.” He continued, offering a profound message on ego and detachment: “Live fully in the world, but without the desire for recognition. Let the prayer be, ‘Lord, I’ve lived many lives, now I seek only You’.”

This visit marks Virat and Anushka’s second to the ashram this year, underscoring the couple’s growing spiritual focus. Previously, they have visited other sacred places, including the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain and Neem Karoli Baba’s ashram in Uttarakhand.
