Lok Sabha Election 2024: Ballari City Corporation official violates norms by sharing video of casting vote through EVM

Voting is underway in 14 constituencies across Karnataka during the 3rd phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections on May 7th. An official of the Ballari City Corporation has fallen into trouble after posting a video on WhatsApp after having cast his vote. The individual who was involved in this act has been identified as Konanki Tilak. Konanki Tilak is facing allegations of having violated the norms of elections including that of the secret ballot.

Konanki voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from Ballari. Former Minister of Transport Department and Tribal Welfare B.Sriramalu is the BJP candidate from Ballari. He recorded the whole process of having cast the vote. He later uploaded a video of this on his WhatsApp status. It should also be kept in mind that electronic devices including mobile phones are not allowed inside the polling booths. The recording was done in ward number 10 in Ballari. In the video that has been uploaded, Konanki can be seen pressing the button against the lotus symbol. He even captioned the video with a remark that he voted for the BJP candidate.

The fact that a government official has himself violated the norms is a matter of concern. It remains to be seen whether action is initiated against the individual in this case by the Election Commission of India.
