Lok Sabha Election 2024: IT Department and ECI recover cash in several places across Karnataka during checks and raids

The 2024 Lok Sabha Election has created a record. The most amount of illegally seized money corresponds to the ongoing election. This trend is also being seen in Karnataka. 

Officials of the Income Tax (IT) Department paid a visit to the Peda Nagari region of Dharwad. Rs 18 crore have been seized from the house of Basavaraj Dattunavar who is considered to be a close aide of the Minister of Labour Department of Karnataka Santosh Lad. The raid was conducted based on a tip off that the money was being used for elections. The money was being kept in the Arna Apartment in the Dasanakoppa region of Dharwad. It was found inside a locker in apartment number 303.

Meanwhile, Rs 6.87 lakh have been seized in the Kulageri cross in the Badami Taluk in the Bagalkot district. The Static Surveillance Team (SST) led by Election Commission of India (ECI) officer RL Nadaf uncovered this cash during a routine check of vehicles. 4 such instances have been recorded in Bagalkot. Similar raids have resulted in the uncovering of cash in the Kalaburagi and Ramanagara districts as well. Resorts and houses were raided in the Maralebekuppe village in Ramanagara.
