The first phase of polling in the 2024 Lok Sabha Election has commenced in 102 constituencies across India. The region of Manipur that witnessed ethnic clashes in 2023 has once again made news with reports of violence and coercion emerging from various parts of the state. 

A viral video shows a Congress candidate arguing with the police officials over an allegation that his polling agent was threatened to clear the booth. The Congress candidate alleged that despite a complaint by the polling officer and the knowledge of the Police, this was allowed to happen.

The Arambai Tenggol outfit is speculated to be behind these attacks. The organisation has however formally denied their involvement in the incidents being reported. Reports of gunshot and monitored polling have surfaced. “I hope both Th Basanta Singh of BJP for Inner and K Timothy Zimik of NPF for Outer Manipur will surely win and support to form the BJP led NDA government at the Centre. I want to appeal to the people of Manipur to cast their votes and save the indigenous population of the state as well as to protect the integrity of the state and bring peace at the earliest,” Chief Minister of Manipur N Biren Singh earlier said.
