D.K Suresh had a proactive approach during the Covid-19 pandemic

After 2 long months of elections held over 7 phases, the much awaited results of the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections will be announced on June 4th. In the state of Karnataka, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) entered into an alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)) after their disappointing performance in the 2023 Vidhana Sabha Elections. The verdict of the 2019 Lok Sabha Election in Karnataka was very much in favour of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The Indian National Congress (INC) will however look to change its fortune in light of its guarantee schemes, the basis on which they came to power in the state elections in 2023.

Here are some keenly watched contests across the state.

  1. Bengaluru Rural: This was the only constituency which the INC held onto in 2019. The BJP however had given the ticket to Dr C.N Manjunath, a doctor well known for his work among the poor. Whether he would be able to cause an upset to D.K Suresh who has a reputation owing to his proactive approach during the Covid-19 pandemic remains to be seen.
  2. Hassan: Prajwal Revanna was the other candidate apart from D.K Suresh who had defeated a BJP candidate in 2019. However, whether the leaked videos which caused a controversy across the nation would affect his prospects in 2024 remains to be seen.
  3. Mandya: Former Chief Minister of Karnataka H.D Kumaraswamy has called this election a question of survival for the JD(S). To win this battle of survival, securing a win in Mandya is crucial. There are reports of discontentment among the public over him supposedly treating Mandya as a back up option. There is also goodwill for the JD(S) among the people. How these dynamics would play out in the election result remains to be seen.
