Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be filing his nomination from the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh on May 14th. May 14th is the last day to file a nomination for seats that would be in contention in the 7th phase of polling. Polling will take place in 57 Lok Sabha seats across 8 states on June 1st as part of the 7th phase of elections. Varanasi would be one among the 57 constituencies.

The contender for PM Modi in this seat would be Ajay Rai from the Indian National Congress (INC). Ajay Rai had finished third in this constituency in both the 2014 and the 2019 election. It must however be remembered that in 2014, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) contested against Modi to finish second and in 2019, Shalini Yadav from the Samajwadi Party (SP) contested from the seat. Currently both AAP and SP are part of the Indian National Democratic Inclusive Alliance (INDIA).
