The venue, which recently hosted the G20 summit, is among four locations undergoing rigorous logistic and security drills, alongside Rashtrapati Bhavan, Kartavya Path, and the National War Memorial. While the National War Memorial boasts a massive seating capacity, concerns linger over the scorching heat potentially dampening the proceedings. In contrast, Bharat Mandapam boasts adequate infrastructure and recently underwent a drill, further solidifying its candidacy.

Designed by renowned architect Raj Rewal, Bharat Mandapam was inaugurated on 3 November 1972, coinciding with the International Trade Fair Asia 72, commemorating 25 years of India’s Independence. Spread across 150 acres and adorned with numerous pavilions like Nehru Pavilion, Defence Pavilion, Indira Pavilion, and Son of India Pavilion, the complex also houses 18 exhibition halls, eateries, performance spaces, and the headquarters of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).

If Bharat Mandapam is indeed chosen as the venue for Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, it would further solidify its significance as a historic landmark in India’s political landscape.
