Mahua Moitra, born on October 12, 1974, is an Indian politician with a background in investment banking. She successfully contested the 2019 Indian general election under the banner of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), securing a seat from Krishnanagar constituency. Moitra served as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from 2019 to 2023.
However, her tenure was cut short when she faced disqualification and expulsion from the Lok Sabha on December 8, 2023. This action followed the recommendation of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee due to her sharing of login credentials for the NIC portal.
Before her stint in national politics, Moitra had a presence in state politics as well. She represented the Karimpur constituency in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, Moitra held significant positions within the AITC, serving as its general secretary and national spokesperson.
Following her expulsion from the Lok Sabha, Moitra's political journey continued within her party. On November 13, 2023, she was appointed as the AITC District President of Krishnanagar (Nadia North), further cementing her role in the party's organizational structure.
Prior to her entry into politics, Moitra pursued a career in investment banking, working at JPMorgan Chase.
