The first Lok Sabha session after the 2024 Lok Sabha Election commenced on 24th June with various Members of Parliament (MPs) taking oath. Controversy has however already erupted with the opposition claiming that norms are being violated to deny them the post of the Deputy Speaker. “Barely 24 hours after his hypocrisy-laden pravachan (lecture) on consensus and cooperation the non-biological PM has made a contest for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker inevitable. Convention has been that the Speaker is elected unanimously and the Deputy Speaker's post goes to the Opposition. The non-biological PM has broken this tradition. It is actually no surprise. He has still not woken up to the reality of the 2024 poll verdict which was a PPM defeat for him--personal, political and moral,” General Secretary in-charge Communications, Indian National Congress (INC) Jairam Ramesh stated on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) will be fielding a candidate for the position of the Speaker. 8-time MP K. Suresh who won by a margin of 10,868 votes from the Mavelikara constituency has filed his nomination. His contestant would Om Birla who served as the speaker in the previous term. The election for the speaker will take place on June 26th. “In the last 10 years, we have always tried to implement a tradition because we believe that a majority is required to run the government but to run the country a consensus is of utmost importance. So, it will be our constant efforts to serve Maa Bharti and fulfil the aspirations and ambitions of the 140 crore people, with everyone's consent and by taking everyone together. We want to go ahead and speed up decisions by taking everyone together, by maintaining the sanctity of the Constitution,” Modi remarked on June 24th ahead of the Lok Sabha session.
