In response to the growing uproar, L&T’s Head of HR, Sonica Muraleedharan, issued a clarification on LinkedIn, defending Subrahmanyan’s comments. She expressed disappointment over what she described as the misinterpretation of the Chairman's words, emphasizing that they were not meant as policy directives but were casual and light-hearted in nature.

Muraleedharan stressed that the remarks were made during an internal address and reflected Subrahmanyan's personality rather than a formal mandate. She further assured that the company continues to prioritize employee well-being and work-life balance.

Support for Subrahmanyan also came from Uma Srinivasan, L&T's Head of Talent Management, who emphasized the Chairman’s empathy and his commitment to the values of the organization. Despite the misunderstanding, L&T has maintained its focus on its employees' welfare, with the HR department seeking to dispel any concerns regarding work hours and conditions.
