Lucia team to celebrate 10 year anniversary through re-release

Actress Shruti Hariharan and Director Pawan Kumar have shared on their social media handles that on 6th September 2023, the 10th year anniversary of the film would be celebrated through a re-release. This would however be limited to only select theatres in the state. The film has now bagged the status of being a cult-classic having created a niche fanbase. Fans were excited by the announcement. One fan stated that even till date many would need time to understand the multiple layers that pan out on the screen. 

Lucia was released on September 6th 2013. It was a crowdfunded venture helmed by Pawan Kumar with Satish Ninasam and Shruti Hariharan playing the leads. The film’s success was a landmark moment for Sandalwood as it reinforced the belief that there is an audience for films that experiment with form and style. Lucia was made on a budget of Rs 50 lakh but earned 8 times the invested amount through theatrical collection and satellite rights. It has also collected several awards including the Karnataka State Film Award for best music for Poornachandra Tejaswi’s chartbusters and the South Indian International Movie Award for best director for Pawan Kumar. It was subsequently even remade in Tamil by C.V Kumar with Siddhart playing the lead role.
