The Maha Kumbh Mela, renowned as the world’s largest religious gathering, began on Monday in Prayagraj with a massive influx of devotees marking the first Shahi Snan on the auspicious occasion of Pauh Purnima. The 45-day spiritual festival, held at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers, is expected to draw over 45 crore devotees, making it a significant event in India’s cultural and religious calendar.

At 8 a.m. on the opening day, government data reported around 60 lakh devotees performing the sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam. The pilgrimage, believed to absolve sins and bestow salvation (moksha), has attracted not only Indian pilgrims but also visitors from around the globe.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy over the commencement of the Maha Kumbh in a social media post, highlighting its significance as a celebration of India’s spiritual heritage and cultural harmony. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also extended his blessings, wishing that Maa Ganga fulfills the aspirations of all devotees.
