The ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj is not only a spiritual extravaganza but also a significant economic boon for the city, driving exponential growth across various sectors. The arrival of millions of pilgrims and tourists has fueled business activity in hospitality, food, woolen clothing, electronics, and other sectors, with sales surging by 30-40%.

Retail and wholesale markets have reported a two- to three-fold increase in sales. Essential goods for devotees are projected to generate over ₹17,310 crore in turnover. Puja materials alone are expected to account for ₹2,000 crore, while the flower trade during the 45-day event is anticipated to reach ₹800 crore. Groceries and dairy products are estimated to contribute ₹4,000 crore each, with vegetables adding ₹2,000 crore and household essentials like mattresses and bedsheets contributing ₹500 crore.

The hospitality sector is set to reach ₹2,500 crore, while travel services, including car rentals and e-rickshaws, are expected to generate ₹300 crore. Other key contributors include firewood, heaters, and plastic containers for carrying Ganga water.

Dry fruits, a popular offering during the event, are seeing unprecedented demand, with 250 tonnes projected for consumption. Special storage and supply chains have been established to maintain freshness.

As the Mahakumbh progresses, traders anticipate even greater business growth, underscoring the event’s transformative economic impact on Prayagraj.
