Tribal women in the area, skilled in making bamboo products, were struggling to earn a decent livelihood. Recognizing the global demand for eco-friendly bamboo items, Srivastava decided to leverage his corporate experience to create a business that would benefit these artisans.
He founded Vikramgarh Bambu Udyog Producer Company Limited, later rebranded as Project Green Gold. The enterprise started modestly but quickly grew, expanding to 23 villages and employing 700 artisans. These women, who once earned meager wages, now produce a range of bamboo products, including puppets and toys.
