In a significant development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing sexual abuse allegations within the Malayalam film industry has recorded a statement from a Kozhikode native, implicating renowned director Ranjith in a serious case of sexual misconduct. The allegations stem from an incident that allegedly took place in 2012 at a five-star hotel in Bengaluru.

According to the complainant, he first met Ranjith during the shooting of the film “Bavuttiyude Namathil” in 2012, where the director reportedly offered his phone number and later invited him to Bengaluru.

The complainant alleges that upon arriving at the hotel, he was offered a drink, coerced into undressing, and subjected to sexual abuse. Furthermore, the complainant claims that Ranjith took nude photographs of him and later sent them to a female friend, an actor in the Malayalam film industry.

The SIT, led by Kerala Police Academy Assistant Director Aishwarya Dongre, recorded the victim’s statement at the Maloorkunnu AR camp. The victim has reportedly provided evidence to substantiate his claims.

In addition to this case, the SIT also recorded a statement from a junior artist who accused actor Edavela Babu of inappropriate behavior.

The investigation continues as the SIT delves deeper into these allegations, signaling a broader inquiry into sexual misconduct within the industry.
