  • If you can go to Lakshadweep to swim, can't you get to Manipur?: Kharge
  • It is important to maintain friendly relations with neighbouring countries: Kharge

Indian National Congress (INC) President Mallikarjun Kharge commented on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approach to International conflicts. He remarked that Modi has a tendency to take everything personally after having become the Prime Minister.

Mallikarajun Kharge threw light on the escalating tension between India and Maldives. “In the realm of International relations, it is important to maintain friendly relations with your neighbouring countries. We must also be prepared to fight if and when the situation arises. Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi faced a similar challenge during the fight for Bangladesh’s liberation. Modi is whimsical in his approach to International Relations. He does not have a planned approach about whom to keep close and whom to antagonise. We cannot change our neighbours. This makes the necessity of cordial relations even more important. Modi does not have this understanding,” he stated.

He had earlier even commented on Modi’s photoshoot in Maldives that had become viral. “Why did this 'mahapurush' not visit the state where people were killed and women were raped?... If you can go to Lakshadweep to swim, can't you get to Manipur?” he asked. The Congress has planned to begin the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Manipur.
