A 26-year-old man was arrested by the Bengaluru Police after a woman took to Instagram to expose a disturbing trend, women being secretly recorded in public spaces without their consent. The social media account in question had posted multiple videos from bustling locations like Church Street and Koramangala, portraying them as “street scenes,” while allegedly targeting and filming unsuspecting women.

The woman, who identified herself in one of the videos, stated she had never consented to being recorded. Despite reporting the video and requesting its removal, she received no response. Distressed by the vulgar messages that followed the viral circulation of the video, she decided to speak out.
In a video shared on her Instagram account, she detailed how the man behind the page followed and recorded women, pretending to capture general chaos on the street. The account had over 10,000 followers and often featured clips of women looking visibly uncomfortable or unaware they were being filmed.
She called the act a clear violation of privacy and consent, stressing that being in a public area doesn’t grant permission to be filmed or have one’s image shared online. She also addressed a common misconception that having a public social media profile equals open consent for use in content.
Unable to tag the account directly after reporting it, she sought help by tagging @blrcitypolice and @cybercrimecid, drawing quick attention from law enforcement. The police identified the man as Gurudeep Singh, and he was arrested for his role in operating the page and sharing non-consensual videos of women.
