Babu Ajay, a user of X (formerly known as Twitter) posted an update about having received his Aadhar card. Along with the Aadhar card he received a letter explaining the security features that it entails. However, the letter was only printed in English and Hindi. Babu Ajay being a Kannada activist was upset that a Kannada version of the same was not available.
A distraught Babu Ajay described this as a flawed language policy of the government which treats non Hindi speakers as second class citizens.
He received support from other users. One user had tagged the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah, Co-founder of Infosys Nandan Nilekani who had also worked on Aadhar and the official account of Aadhar on X. He requested the Chief Minister to ensure that all administrative services are available in Kannada. He also requested Article 15 to be amended to include discrimination on the basis of language as well. He had typed this using the Kannada script.
In a classic case of not reading the room, the Aadhar Help Centre responded to him asking him to relay his concerns in Hindi or English. This had infuriated many who described this as a consequence of unchecked Hindi imposition.
