Heavy rains across Karnataka have proven to be a double-edged sword. While the rain is a lifeline for farmers and comes as a relief amidst water shortage, the destruction of lives is tragic nevertheless.

A man who had approached the backwaters of the Krishna river for offering ‘Bhagina’ (Auspicious gift given to a Brahmana or a woman whose husband is alive) was subsumed by the water. The incident occurred at the Ingali village located in the Chikkodi Taluk of the Belagavi district. 28-year-old Rohan Patil who did not know how to swim lost his balance and fell into the river. The localities recovered his body through the means of a boat.

Amidst the collapse of a hill in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, the fear of the possibility of a recurrence of such an event has consumed experts. Officials associated with the Geological Survey of India (GSI) have forewarned district officials and recommended preventive measures such as restriction on travel. District Collector Priya released an order in light of this development.
