46-year-old man in Mumbai granted pre-arrest bail in a rape case
He presented a "live-in relationship agreement" to the court
This agreement prevents him from arraignment in a court
A 46-year-old man in Mumbai has been granted pre-arrest bail in a rape case after presenting a “live-in relationship agreement” that he claims prevents either party from filing sexual harassment charges against the other. The bail was granted by the court on August 29.

The case was brought against the man by a 29-year-old woman, who alleges that he had repeatedly raped her after promising marriage during their time living together. The woman, a caregiver for the elderly, has contested the authenticity of the agreement, telling the court that the signature on the document is not hers. The accused, a government employee, is now under investigation by the police, who are working to verify the legitimacy of the document.
The man’s lawyer, Sunil Pandey, has dismissed the allegations, asserting that his client is being falsely implicated. “The applicant has been falsely implicated in the case. He is a victim of circumstances. They were in a live-in relationship. The agreement shows that both of them had agreed to be in a relationship,” Pandey stated.
The seven-point agreement, allegedly made between the two, includes clauses that they would live together from August 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, and that neither would file sexual harassment cases against the other. Other clauses specify that the woman cannot bring relatives to the man’s home and that the man will not be held responsible if the woman becomes pregnant during this period. The agreement is now central to the ongoing legal proceedings.
