Swedish Climate activist Greta Thunberg addressed a gathering of close to 70,000 people in Amsterdam that had convened for a climate protest. During the protest she invited a Palestinian and Afghan woman on stage as an act of solidarity. “As a climate justice movement, we have to listen to the voices of those who are being oppressed and those who are fighting for freedom and for justice. Otherwise, there can be no climate justice without international solidarity,” she stated.
After the Palestinian woman’s speech, one of the attendants of the event was angered. He grabbed the mic from Greta Thunberg. “I have come here for a climate demonstration, not a political view,” he stated before being dragged off the stage. Greta Thunberg asked the man to calm down. The man had a jacket with a logo of “Water Natuurlijk”, an organisation some of whose members are elected representatives in the Dutch Water Board. The election in the Netherlands is due in less than two weeks.

Reports suggest that slogans such as “Palestine will be free” and “From the river to the sea” were chanted by a crowd before the incident unfolded.
Thunberg had earlier posted a pro-Palestine message on Instagram that had prompted the Israel’s Education Ministry to remove references to her from their curriculum.
