Former Chief Minister of Karnataka Kumaraswamy was called as a chief guest for a sports program in the Kalladka Sri Rama Vidya Kendra in the Bantwal suburb of Mangaluru. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Basangouda Ramangouda Patil Yatnal was also present on this occasion and they were in fact seated next to each other.
While addressing the students H.D Kumaraswamy praised the system of gurukuls. He reminisced about his childhood wherein he would chant lord Ram’s bhajans and even chanted a few lines on the stage. He stated that certain people had taken him down a wrong path and that his eyes have now opened. He expressed regret over some mistakes that were made by him. He ended his speech by chanting “Jai Shree Ram.”
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhatt also spoke at the event. He praised Kumaraswamy and his entire family for serving the country. He recalled that he was the Chief Minister on two occasions. He stated that the people of the state fondly remember him as Kumaranna. He characterised him as a simple and altruistic personality.
Among Kumaraswamy and Devegowda, the former was always thought to be more accepting of the BJP and its ideological partners and thi incident has firmly driven that point home.
