In a case related to a mob parading two women naked in Manipur, that created massive outrage across the country after the video of it went viral on social media, police arrested the main accused in this case.
The women in the video allegedly belonged to one of the communities at war in Manipur. It is alleged that the mob also gang-raped the women. When the brother of one of them tried to intervene and rescue, the mob also killed him.
Members of Kuki community, dressed in black, held a protest on July 20 in Manipur’s Churachandpur demanding strict action against all those who paraded the women naked and assaulted her.
As they incident went viral, the opposition parties staged protest in the parliament and PM Modi expressed his pain over the heinous incident.
The accused arrested from Thoubal district of Manipur could be seen conspicuously in the video that went viral. Manipur police have registered a case of abduction, gang rape and murder against unidentified armed miscreants at Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district, and investigating the case. It is also not clear when the incident in the viral video had taken place, but the video of which had gone viral on July 19.
Manipur has been on the boil for the last 2 months, with two ethnic groups Kukis and Meitis fighting against each other over caste status.
