Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish President Pedro Sanchez inaugurated India’s first private military aircraft production facility in Vadodara, Gujarat, on Monday. The Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) plant will manufacture Airbus C295 military transport aircraft, marking a milestone in India’s aerospace and defense sector. "This 'Make in India' project is a game changer," said PM Modi, emphasizing its impact on both domestic aviation and India’s export potential.

Tactical Edge for Indian Air Force
The C295 aircraft, a versatile, twin-turboprop designed by Airbus Defence and Space, is set to bolster the Indian Air Force’s capabilities. It will replace the ageing Antonov An-32 and Avro 748 fleets, offering tactical benefits with its ability to operate on short, unpaved runways along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and maritime boundaries.

A Boost to ‘Make in India’
The initiative advances India’s ‘Make in India’ drive, with 56 aircraft to be produced under the program. Tata will manufacture 40 of these domestically by 2031, marking the inaugural Indian-made C295 aircraft in 2026.
Job Creation and Sector Growth
The plant will generate over 3,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs, spurring development in Gujarat’s aerospace sector and creating a skilled workforce.
Global Export Potential
Beyond meeting domestic needs, the C295 project aligns with India’s ambition to export military and civil aircraft, positioning it as a new player in the global aerospace market.
