A significant scam involving the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has come to light, revealing rampant corruption in the issuance of property khatas that runs into thousands of crores. Despite the serious allegations, no action has been taken against the culprits involved in this extensive fraud.

The scam centers around the conversion of khatas, where approximately 45,000 illegal A Khatas have reportedly been issued over the past eight years, misleading landowners and costing the government substantial revenue. According to sources, NewsFirst Prime learns that the fees paid was meant for B Khatas, yet A Khatas were fraudulently issued instead.
Numerous complaints have been lodged regarding these irregularities, including one from former BBMP member NR Ramesh. A special committee from the revenue department, consisting of four members, conducted an investigation and found that 698 illegal A Khatas were issued solely in the Anjanapura zone.
The committee’s report has reportedly highlighted significant manipulations in the khata issuance process. It was noted that the revenue department failed to follow the proper procedure involving R Code 130, a rule that mandates fees to be deposited into the government’s account for land conversions. Despite these findings, no action has been taken against those implicated, raising questions about accountability within the BBMP and the state government.
