In a move to support students and travelers from Meghalaya, the state government has approved the acquisition of a property in Bengaluru for use as a dedicated lodging facility. The initiative aims to reduce accommodation costs, particularly for students pursuing education in the city.

Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh confirmed the decision, highlighting that the facility will accommodate up to 100 individuals. It will include separate dormitories for male and female occupants, each with a 50-person capacity.
Bengaluru remains a favored destination for Meghalaya residents, whether for higher education or other purposes. However, rising rental prices have made affordable housing increasingly difficult to find. The government's intervention seeks to address this concern by providing an economical alternative.
Responding to inquiries about the establishment of a Meghalaya House in Bengaluru, Lyngdoh acknowledged the proposal but emphasized the immediate need for cost-effective lodging. He noted that constructing a full-fledged Meghalaya House would require additional administrative processes, making it a long-term goal.
To offer quicker relief, the government is expediting the opening of this guest house, prioritizing students and visitors in urgent need of budget-friendly stays. The initiative is expected to provide significant support while broader infrastructure plans are developed.
