  • Mike Hesson, Sanjay Bangar relieved of contract
  • Future of bowling coach Adam Griffith unclear
  • RCB on the lookout for "someone with new ideas"

Mike Hesson had taken over as the director of cricket operations,RCB in 2019 after 3 consecutive disastrous seasons wherein they had failed to qualify for the playoffs and finished in the bottom twice. Despite not having won an IPL title, under Mike Hesson reached the playoffs for 3 consecutive seasons. This year they missed the mark by a very narrow margin. Thus, in what appears to be a case of recency bias that has plagued the RCB management since times immemorial Mike Hesson has been shown the door apparently in search of someone who can bring in new ideas to overturn the franchise’s fortunes. Along with Mike Hesson, Batting Coach Sanjay Banger’s association with RCB has also come to an end. It is still unclear whether bowling coach Adam Griffith will continue in the next season in his role.

It is to be noted that Mike Hesson was also instrumental in making key changes to the style of cricket played by New Zealand. Along with Brendon McCullum he devised a fearless approach which placed them in the ODI World Cup finals for the first time in 2015.

With Lucknow SuperGiants replacing Andy Flower with Justin Langer and rumours suggesting that he is still in talk with other IPL franchises, he appears to be a top contender for the replacement
