Minister of Infrastructure Development of Karnataka M B Patil announced the latest developments in the Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project (BSRP) during a press conference held at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Karnataka government and the KfW Development Bank of Germany.

The agreement entails a substantial loan of ₹4,561 crore with a four percent annual interest rate for a duration of 20 years. N Manjula, the Managing Director of K-RIDE (Rail Infrastructure Development Company-Karnataka), the key agency overseeing the project, and Wolf Muth, Country Director of KfW Development Bank, officially sealed the deal in the presence of Minister Patil, who oversees infrastructure development.

This agreement serves as a supplementary pact, following the primary agreement inked on December 15, 2023, between the Government of India's Department of Economic Affairs and KfW, facilitating the disbursement of the aforementioned funds.

Patil expressed the government's commitment to completing all four corridors of the BSRP by December 2027.

Emphasizing synergy, he clarified that the BSRP is designed not to compete with but to complement the existing Metro Rail project. This strategic alignment aims to enhance overall connectivity and transportation efficiency within Bengaluru and its surrounding areas.
